Things I liked this week

Worked at a wedding in Queenshouse in Greenwich this week, was really pretty, I had never been there before.

Went to the bank and had a flashback to my childhood when I saw this. Why are these things so fun? Colours, shapes, etc?

Random words idea

I've been reading Sic by Sean Landers which is an entire book made up of whatever comes out of Sean's head written unedited on the page. I really like this idea, its a really honest, raw, unpretentious way of writing. True, its kind of boring at times but its real. This has made me realise that I have a real love of random decisions, why I also liked the book The Dice Man. I use randomness to decide things in my daily life. Sometimes when I can't bring myself to think about a colour scheme that works I let myself randomly take pens out of my pencil case and am forced into that colour scheme by randomness. When I get dressed in the morning everyday (this is really weird, please don't think I'm crazy) I use the rhyme "eeny menu many mo" to decide what I'm going to wear. If theres something I particularly want to wear I put it in a placement so I am likely to land on it but I hardly ever actually choose what to wear. This brings me to an idea I have which will give me a random way to decide my shapes for the patterns I make. I am going to make a series of blog entries where I time myself for 10 minutes. In that ten minutes I will write whatever words pop into my head without thinking about it. Later I think I will use these words to inspire patterns and imagery.

Here goes:

go hoe hello felt pen tip hi no jesus red tonight speak fuck no stop wow to be spite might hop sin fuck no me speak from heart sin hop goat cry stop hair grass finger thumb tomato from jesus christ jewish no god fuck spite hello gosh turn fuck inspire together castle help me to make sense of this i don't fake soy sauce kitchen work soup forgive forever toe men text fight no no me spent no sentence to get no rid sonic gun fight heart love tomato hero man fork gun today tonight no never tell me how in side why bag foot pattern pink cross crisscross forgive forever no no behind be gone been gone tree leave foreign fellow night sky plane car broom felt noise washing whisk stop high low skip gone fine fright no night noisy wall wallpaper crisscross painting art illustration shirt work money fight forgive god singing skip fight god fear fine tv fine fine stop no no me problem no fine cry tear sonic yawn tired night bed sleep gone distraction care fly table cry cross fight love fry sonic table gun tell me go out so just fight be nice to me i am stop nice to you i am so boney inside my skin there are bones and songs and i don't know what blood no not red yellow blue pink yet i don't know how many fire faces what what

Leighton House

Worked a shift tonight at Leighton House, mostly giving out canapes in the garden but at the very end of the shift was asked to go into the house for something and it was so beautiful! Excellent accidental research for my pattern design IPS project. Obviously couldn't take photos because I was working but here are some that I found online.

Independent State of Camberwell Exhibition/ Conversas Camberwell

Solving and I wearing Molly Kempner's masks and Rebecca Sander's pin badge at the exhibition:

The independent state exhibition gave us a chance to showcase our work in an exhibition setting and collaborate our ideas, particularly with curation and deciding which work would compliment what. I think in future we will have learnt from this and will develop more effective curtain methods. The space was a derelict house which meant we had to arrange the work in a way that suits it and it was interesting to see things hung more playfully than it would have been in a clean white walled space.

And puppet show by Solvieg:

And talk from David Cross:

This is the second of these series of talks that I've been to and in this one I was particularly proud to support my classmate Solvieg as she debuted her political puppet show. Conversas is a series of weekly open–talks for discussing projects and interests; everyone is welcome and entrance is free. It gives a chance for us to debate and talk through issues and opinions more openly than we get at our lectures and this time to think about my beliefs and why I make my work helps me to to justify my actions within my work and makes it feel more meaningful and for a cause. This week and last time I went the talks were political leaning towards anticapitalist movements. Until this term politics has been a subject I have avoided in fear of sounding stupid but I have come to realise that politics is all around us and unavoidable as it is not just the prime minister in the houses of parlement but its the issues we face every day such as the price of tampons or the choices about what to spend the university budget on. And if you have opinions about these issues, you are political.
